Intended for use in conjunction with IR viewing and UV photography, the Ultra-Goggles allow a visual preview of areas under study. For many applications the Ultra-Goggles will render the more complicated and expensive methods of machine viewing unnecessary. |
How do they work?
The secret of the Ultra-Goggles is in the unique properties of the optical filter discs used as lenses. As the chart below indicates, these highly selective lenses block most of the light waves that fall within the central portion of the visible spectrum. The lenses do however pass a high percentage of those light waves that extend beyond the visible domain into the ultraviolet, as well as light that falls below the range of visibility into the infrared.
Note that these lenses have a relatively broad cutoff curve and thus they will in fact pass a small but useable percentage of visible light waves, primarily at the frequencies that are close to the upper and lower limits of normal human vision. This is what makes the Ultra-Goggles uniquely suited for visual observation into the "fringe areas" of human perception.

When you put on a pair of Ultra-Goggles, the first thing you will notice is that everything has gone dark. You will be able to see nearby sources and reflections of bright light, but not much more under average lighting conditions. However, after just a few moments, you will become aware that more and more of your surroundings are becoming visible. Soon you should actually be able to see fairly well even in dim light -- although everything you see will have an eerie reddish-purple cast.
What's happened is that the Ultra-Goggles have blocked most of the light that was previously reaching your eyes so your eyes have adjusted by becoming "dark-adapted". In other words, your pupils have opened to near their maximum level and your eyes are now ready to function as they would at night or in any dark setting. You may remember from high school biology class that our eyes contain two types of photoreceptors: cones and rods. The cones are utilized predominantly in bright light situations and allow us to distinguish colors. The rods are utilized predominantly in low light situations but do not sense color. The rods only sense intensity of light but they are much more sensitive to low light levels than the cones.
The artificial darkness imposed by the Ultra-Goggles is not "normal" darkness of course, there is a disproportionate amount of super-blue and deep-red light which your eyes are quite capable of seeing. And now, with your pupils fully dilated and your rods highly activated, your eyes have achieved a "super-normal" sensitivity to the borderline wavelengths of visible light being transmitted through the lenses of the Ultra-Goggles.
In effect, your vision has become quite similar to that of a cat.
IMPORTANT HEALTH NOTICE:
Exposure to UV or Intense
Blue Light Can Cause
Permanent Severe Eye Damage and/or Blindness !!!
The Ultra-Goggles
DO NOT BLOCK ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT !!!
DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN WITH
THE ULTRA-GOGGLES !!!
DO NOT
LOOK DIRECTLY INTO ANY SUNLIT AREA
INCLUDING WATER OR SNOW COVERED SURFACES !!!
DO NOT Look Directly into
Laser Beams, Welding or Electrical Sparks,
Photo Lights,
Black Lights, Halogen Lamps, Full Spectrum Lamps or
ANY Sources of Light That May Contain
Ultraviolet or Blue Light Wavelengths !!!
The Ultra-Goggles are intended for experimental and research purposes under controlled lighting conditions.
The Ultra-Goggles will not allow you to see in total darkness.
The Ultra-Goggles will not enable you to see
Ultraviolet or Infrared Wavelengths, they will simply help to maximize your
sensitivity to the
super-blue and deep-red portions of the visible spectrum.
The Ultra-Goggles will only be sold to responsible individuals who are at least 21 years of age.
The Ultra-Goggles are priced as follows:
$169.00 for the Standard set (12 mm dia. lenses) and
$249.00 for the Super set (25 mm dia. lenses)
Prices include shipping within
the U.S.*
*Sorry, the Ultra-Goggles are not available for shipping
to Virginia, Idaho or the District of Columbia.
